September is quite a nice month for us. One of the things that we love abut this month is that apples have arrived in great quantity, and we love to eat apples! (ok...ok...my meowmie loves to eat them) We haff a wonderpurr orchard in our area, Applesource, where mew can get a huge variety of apples which will satisfy the taste preference of any human or kitty. Mew can mix and match, so it is easy to stock up on mewr particular favorites, and many of them store well so we can eat apples into winter. Some of my favorites are Swiss Gourmet (AKA Arlet), Goldrush, Honey Crisp, Pitmaston Pineapple, Ashmead's Kernel and Braeburn , but my all time favorite is the purrfectly fabulous Mutsu. We are a household of beings who really like to eat, so the fall selection of apples, squash and other Farmer's Market offerings are a September blessing for us!

Another activity to which we always look forward is the Prairieland Heritage Museum Annual Steam Show And Fall Festival. This will be the 31st edition of the show...the festival days are September 27-30, 2001. There is something for everyone at the event, and it is especially interesting if mew are fond of memorabilia and early American ways of doing things. Available activities inclde the following:
Threshing
Corn Shucking
Sawmill
Gas Engines
Flea market
Plowing (horses)
Walking Plow Exhibit
Bailing
Steam Engines
Concessions
Craft Show
Blacksmithing
Lawn & Garden Tractor Display
Horse Drawn Equipment
Cornmeal Grinding
Sorghum / Molasses Production
Corn Items Collectors Club
Antique Tractors & Equipment
Steam Train Rides
Camping available
Tram Rides to and from parking lots
Hay Lifting Demonstration
Many products of the Steam Show are available for purchase, such as cornmeal, flour and sorghum. If mewr furmily includes those who love flea markets, this is the place to be. Mew can get mewr exercise and haff fun looking at and purchasing a zillion things. From nifty sweatshirts wiff pictures of kitties on them to antique kitchen utensils and tools (and anything else mew can think of), mew can find it there. It is also furry interesting to see the many little and big steam engines which are set up fur all to enjoy...some of them actually do things (such as making mini straw bales) and some of them just sit there and run. Now my meowmie doesn't particularly understand engines that just sit there and run, but she thinks that they are really neat anyway because they are old and are a part of history. The food is great and the people are supurr, making this a festival that we always look forward to attending.

Ahhhhh...now we come to something that we absolutely love about September...the fall color change! We are fortunate enough to live in the Midwest, where we can experience the joys (and sometimes the pain) of changing seasons. Our favorite, by far, is Autumn. We love the crisp crunch of the leaves beneath our paws and the brisk air as we walk along enjoying the beauty of Nature.
