Ms Tequila Sunrise

I am a little calico girl kitty who has been a member of this household since the fall of 1994.  I really like living here, but the other kitties living in this house don't seem to be particularly enthusiastic about having me here.  I don't care what they think, though---I am here to stay!

I had a tough life on the outside before I was brought into the house.  I had a family at the beginning of my life, but they must have been tired of me for some reason, because I was  abandoned at a fairly early age.  I roamed outside for the rest of the year, and no one really noticed me until the next spring.  At that time, a lady heard a lot of "hissing" in her backyard, by the old locust tree.  She investigated, and found me there with my little litter of kittens.  They were around a month old when I was discovered, and were all in good shape, so everyone could tell that I was the best kitty-mom in the world!  The neighbors were quite angry that a nice little kitty like myself should have ended up that way, but they started putting out food for me, which made my mom-life much better.  I was a fearless hunter, and used to make the lady who is now my meowmie very upset when I would catch things that she thought should be running or flying around in her yard.  (She got mad a lot 'cause I was a very good hunter)

When my kittens were old enough to leave home, the lady in whose yard I was living arranged for them to be adopted.  At that time, two neighbor ladies (my now Meowmie and the neighbor who lives next door to her) decided that they would pool their money and have me spayed.  It was hard for them to put me into a cat carrier, because I would let them pet me, but they were never allowed to pick me up. (my now Meowmie put on the gloves that she used when she trims the roses so she wouldn't be clawed too badly!)  I went to the vet, and recovered in the basement of the house where I now live.  After I was fully recovered, I went back outside to resume my life.  The next door neighbor was very fond of me, and put out a litter box for me, as well a lots of food.  My now Meowmie kept asking the neighbor if she was going to take me into her house, but she said that she didn't really need another inside cat.  Finally, at Halloween, my now Meowmie brought me into the house because she didn't think that it was a good time for kitties to be out.

When I came in , I never went out again.  This is a wonderful place for kitties to live, even if my brofurs and sisfurs don't want to have anything to do with me.  I don't know why they don't like me---I never cause any trouble, and I keep out of their way at all times.  My Meowmie likes me a lot, though.  She pets me whenever I want her to, and is really good about not picking me up, as I still don't like to be cuddled.  I do like to sit on her lap, though, and I almost always sleep with her.  When she sleeps on the sofa, I'm always there, and, when she sleeps in the recliner, I always sleep on her lap---I am a great comfort to her!  When we are sleeping in our regular bed, I always sleep right up by her head.

I am a very good kitty, and never cause any problems for my Meowmie.  I love being able to sleep in a safe place, too---my favorite winter sleeping places are on top of heat registers, and the rest of the time, I just try out all of the different chairs and other secret places around the house.  I don't even mind when we have company now, and always come out when Gramma comes so she can pet me.  I still like to play with toys sometimes, even though I am getting older.

My favorite play thing is when Meowmie has a piece of raffia---I really love to chase it, and I try to help her when she is wrapping gifts with it, or using it to decorate the Christmas tree!  I sometimes like to look out the window at the birds and squirrels in the back yard, but I don't ever want to go outside again!
